Official Statement
The armed forces of the Kurdistan Future Movement operate under the name:
“National Defense Unit of the Kurdistan Future Movement.”
Our Principle
The Kurdistan Future Movement is founded on a clear and unwavering belief:
Weapons are not a solution to political or social problems.
Our vision is a future where Kurdistan—and Iran—are governed by law, justice, and civil institutions. A future where no armed force, whether state or non-state, is required to protect ordinary people.
A Reality We Cannot Ignore
Despite this vision, reality imposes difficult responsibilities.
In environments where:
- Law and order have collapsed
- Civilians face violence and displacement
- Systematic abuse threatens human life
We believe that protecting civilians becomes a humanitarian duty.
For this reason, the Kurdistan Future Movement recognizes the temporary necessity of a defensive force.
The Role of the Defense Unit
The National Defense Unit of the Kurdistan Future Movement exists solely for one purpose:
To protect human life where no lawful protection exists.
All units operate:
- Under the authority of the General Leadership
- In coordination with central command
- Within strict ethical and legal boundaries
What Our Armed Forces Are — and Are Not
Our armed forces are:
- Not permanent
- Not ideological
- Not instruments of power
They exist only as a temporary response to immediate danger.
The moment civilian safety can be guaranteed through legitimate institutions,
our forces will lay down their weapons.
Our Position on Violence
We clearly and firmly declare:
- We reject militarism
- We reject violence as a political tool
- We reject intimidation and terror against civilians
Violence against non-combatants is never justified and is always illegitimate.
When Defense Becomes a Moral Obligation
In situations where:
- There is no law
- No functioning courts
- No effective civil authority
Then protecting life is not a choice—it is a moral responsibility.
In such moments, refusing to act is not neutrality.
It is negligence.
Core Principles of the Defense Unit
- Defense, not aggression
- Protection, not politics
- Temporary, not permanent
- Weapons are used only to protect civilians, never to govern
All actions are grounded in international humanitarian law.
Protection of Civilians
We strictly uphold the following:
- Civilians are never targets
- Collective punishment is prohibited
- Arbitrary detention is rejected
- Human dignity must always be respected
- Medical personnel must be protected
We are committed to:
- Minimizing harm
- Respecting the laws of armed conflict
- Preserving life above all
Where We Do NOT Operate
The Kurdistan Future Movement does not operate in areas where:
- Courts function effectively
- Civil police protect citizens
- Rule of law is respected
- Democratic governance exists
In such environments, weapons have no place.
Operational Limits
Our armed presence is:
- Geographically limited
- Temporally limited
It exists only where civilian lives are at risk and lawful systems have failed.
Conditions for Membership
Members of the Defense Unit must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have no criminal record
- Pass psychological and physical evaluations
- Commit to civil values
- Accept and sign the Future Movement program
Oath of the Defense Unit Member
As a member of the National Defense Unit, I swear:
By my conscience and my belief,
That my weapon shall be used only for defense,
That I will protect life, not take it unjustly,
That I will uphold dignity, law, and humanity in all circumstances,
And that I will lay down my weapon when justice and law prevail.
Final Message
Weapons, for the Kurdistan Future Movement, are not an ideology.
They are a temporary responsibility—
A duty forced by circumstance, not chosen as a path.
Our true goal is a future where no one needs to carry a weapon.
